August Favourites

1. Eucerin Gentle Hydrating Foaming Cleanser 237ml.

I was looking for something similar to replace Alpha Hydrox Refreshing Face Wash and came across this cleanser from Eucerin. It’s basic, it’s gentle, it does the job without leaving my skin with an uncomfortable tight feeling and it’s under $8. Only thing I don’t like is the pump it’s a little dodgy, the neck isn’t long enough so it gets stuck. Purchased from iherb.

2. Paula’s Choice Skin Balancing Toner 190ml.

I could never find a great toner to balance my oily/combo skin until I found this ! I immediately re-ordered a second bottle without hesitation. It contains lots of soothing ingredients; glycerin, chamomile extract, niacinamide, panthenol and ceramides. The lightweight formula helps prevent the signs of ageing and helps eliminate flakiness. It features regularly in my skincare routine. Purchased from paulaschoice.com.au

3. Palmer’s Intensive Relief Hand Cream 60g.

I’ve been loving Palmer’s hand cream this winter, especially if I’ve accidentally reached for that bar of soap to wash my hands or even worse liquid hand wash. It contains soothing ingredients and forms a protective barrier to retain moisture and absorbs quickly without leaving hands feeling greasy. Not bad for under $5. Purchased from iherb.

4. The Ordinary “Buffet” Multi-Technology Peptide Serum 30ml.

I was seriously apprehensive about buying anymore products from The Ordinary. I’ve found more than a few haven’t lived up to the hype. I’ve actually ditched several; lactic acid 10% + HA 2%, Caffeine 5% + EGCG Solution have been binned and I sold my tube of Vitamin C Suspension 23%+HA Spheres 2%. Buffet is one of The Ordinary’s better serums it’s extremely versatile, I can layer it under my moisturiser or cocktail it with virtually any other serum or treatment without irritating my skin. It targets surface hydration, fine lines, wrinkles, dynamic lines and textural irregularities. Purchased from Asos.

5. Drunk Elephant Lippe 3.7g.

Another winter staple, I love to slather this on throughout the day and before bed. It contains lots of lovely soothing plant oils, waxes and peptides. In addition it works well as a moisturising balm for dry, ragged cuticles. It’s a little pricey at $26 if you tend to lose lip balms you might want to reconsider but totally worth it for the anti-ageing benefits. Purchased from Mecca Cosmetica.

6. NailsInc London Sparkle Like a Unicorn Nail Polish Duo 2 X 14ml.

Rainbow Wishes is an iridescent polish with a lilac/blue opalescent holographic glow. I’m wearing 3 coats. You might need more as it’s quite sheer.

Dream Dust is a rose pink/gold non-chunky glitter featuring 3D pigment. Easy to apply these glide on without much effort thanks to the wide brush. I’m wearing 2 coats. Purchased from eBay also available from stylepatisserie.com for $27 AUD which is a bargain when you consider NailsInc usually charge $25 a bottle in Australia.

7. Eva•NYC Purse Perfect Hair Towelettes 10 X 2.7ml.
I love the convenience of these, yes I know they look like the refresher towelettes you get at KFC😂 You can stash one in the tiniest wallet or even your pocket. Suitable to take traveling or camping. These do a fab job of refreshing a day old ‘do, smooth fly aways and tame frizz on damp or dry hair. They contain argan oil, omegas 3, 6, 7, 9 and sea buckthorn oil. Purchased from Urban Outfitters for $15 US for a box of 10.

My 5 Favourite Polish Brands

Happy Mani Monday 💅🏼💅🏼💅🏼

* NailsInc Gel Effects. If you follow me closely on Instagram you may have already guessed NailsInc is my one of my favourite luxe polish brands. NailsInc make some of the best non-streaky pastel shades. If you buy anything from NailsInc I highly recommend the VVB Victoria Beckham NailsInc Box containing ‘Bamboo White’, ‘Judo Red’ and GelEffect in ‘Mayfair Lane’. Well worth the investment if you love a high quality finish to your manicure.

* Essence Cosmetics the gel. Always at the forefront of current nail art trends Essence are constantly updating and expanding their colour range with quality finishes at low price points. Their XXXL plumping gel top coat is amazing and regular I ❤️ Trend Edition releases mean you’re guaranteed to never get bored with your nails. I’m currently obsessed with ‘The Sultan’s Daughter’ a dusky mauve from Limited Edition Lights of Orient Collection. Prices start from a tiny $3.25.

* Sally Hansen Miracle Gel. This may be a controversial choice. I’m aware there’s lots of hate in the beauty community regarding the wear time of this range. It was the first ever ‘gel’ range I tried so I have a bit of a soft spot it. Since its release Sally Hansen have improved its top coat formula with 2 X the volume. I’m still as impressed with SH Miracle Gels now as I was a couple years ago when I purchased my first shade which I believe was Sugar Fix ! MG Shades worth adding to your collection: Game of Chromes, TerraCoppa, Red Eye and Tidal Wave.

Special mention: Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure. Boasts 7 benefits in the one bottle. Everything you need for a flawless professional looking mani. As the name suggests it’s your all-in-one: base, colour and top coat with added nail strengtheners. The one colour I’ll never tire of is 370 Commander in Chic. It’s the Best.Taupe.Ever.

* Maybelline New York Superstay Gel Nail Color. This is one of the best budget ‘instant gel’ polish ranges around despite a very limited colour selection available to us in Australia. I love it most for the fat one-swipe per nail brush and glossy shine. My top two picks are Rose Poudre and Ever Burgundy.

* Rimmel London. Lastly, another drugstore brand. I feel Rimmel polishes are one of the most underrated. You can’t go wrong with the Rita Ora Festival Collaboration (second range) for lots of cheap n cheerful colours, 60 Seconds/Super Shine if you’re in a hurry or the Salon Pro with Lycra Kate Moss range because the fat brush rocks!

Berry Nails Autumn Winter 2016

*NailsInc London NailKale Gloucester Walk 14ml AUD$26.95

I bought this on sale last month from David Jones for about $18. It’s the world’s first superfood nail polish made with kale extract for stronger, smoother and healthier looking nails. Kale extract is known for its high levels of Vitamin A, C and K and according to NailsInc its ability to stimulate keratin production whilst providing hydration, nourishing the nail and protecting against splitting. I’m wearing 2 coats of this stunning vibrant purple shade.

*Bourjois La Laque 10 Beach Violet 10ml AUD$7.80 on sale from Priceline during the 40% off cosmetics sale.

This is the newest polish range to come from Bourjois Paris. I’m wearing 2 coats of this highly pigmented rich berry colour. The formulation is quite thick very similar to NailsInc polish with a very high gloss lacquered finish hence the name “La Laque” and is well worth considering if a $26 bottle of polish isn’t in your budget. The “precision” brush took a bit of getting used to however I really love this berry shade. The colour pulls a little more red in my swatch and IRL as opposed to violet as the name might suggest.

*Maybelline Super Stay Gel Nail Colour 270 Ever Burgundy 10ml AUD$7.95

Lastly Maybelline New York: Ever Burgundy. According to Maybelline it’s a gel nail colour that will give you seven days of flawless, chip-free colour. I’m wearing 2 coats of this beautiful black cherry shade. The gel resin formula is enriched with calcium, iron and silica to strengthen your nails. It features a very wide curved brush for the easiest and fastest application ever.

Nail Tip

Base coat is non-negotiable when it comes to wearing such highly pigmented shades of purple and burgundy. The colours above are notorious nail stainers. I’ve played it very safe and applied 2 coats before my colour to protect my nails.

Base Coats: Sally Hansen Complete Care 7-in-1 Nail Treatment + Fabulucious Ridge Filler it’s a semi-opaque nude and protects from staining as well as filling nail ridges.

Top Coat: Sally Hansen Miracle Gel 2 X Volume Top Coat.
